Me llamo Rebekah. Voy a vivir con usted para el mes de junio y julio. Yo estoy muy emocionado, pero un poco nervioso.

Mi madre son de cuba, pero yo hablo un poco de espanol. lo siento ahora para mi mala gramatica. Yo necesito mucho ayuda. 

yo tengo pelo castano, y ojos morenos. yo puedo ser timido, pero soy simpatico. Gracias por abrir su casa para mi.

Saludos Rebekah, soy Concha Martínez, madre de la familia con la que vivirás durante tu estancia en Granada. Para que tanto tus padres como tú estéis tranquilos voy a hablarte de mi familia.

 

Somos tres personas, mi marido, Eduardo Villar, mi hija, Clara Villar Martínez y yo, Concha Martínez Guerrero. Hay otro miembro más en la familia es "Negrito", un perro pequeño con el que no tendrás problemas de convivencia.

 

Mi marido es médico, especialista en Anatomía Patológica, trabaja en un hospital que está muy cerca de casa. Además de trabajar tiene otras aficiones como por ejemplo: las motos, le apasionan y tiene una de gran cilindrada. También canta en el Coro de la Universidad y en el del Instituto de nuestra hija. Le gusta también la música clásica, el jazz, el rock....

 

Mi hija Clara tiene 14 años, estudia 3º de ESO, enseñanza secundaria o high school, es tímida, estudiosa, cariñosa. En definitiva es mi hija y como puedes ver me parece estupenda. También canta, muy bien es soprano, en el coro del Instituto Padre Manjón que es donde estudia.

Yo soy periodista, pero hace muchos años que no ejerzo como tal. Actualmente me ocupo de las cosas de casa y trabajo como voluntaria en una organización de agrupa a 400 asociaciones de madres y padres de centros educativos. Esta organización se encarga de supervisar que se aplica correctamente toda la normativa relacionada con la educación tanto en contenidos, como en modelos pedagógicos. Colaboramos con las autoridades en mejorar el sistema educativo y damos formación a las familias y alumnos en muchos temas, como por ejemplo los relacionados con la convivencia, resolución de conflictos, prevención del absentismo escolar. Diseñamos programas de actuación en los centros educativos y nos reunimos con directores, profesores, madres y padres con el objetivo de que las niñas y los niños tengan una educación de calidad.

 

Soy la Vicepresidenta de dicha Federación y eso me obliga a tener una agenda muy intensa.

En definitiva me apasiona lo que hago.

 

Tu llega a Granada coincidirá con una época muy bonita en la ciudad, estamos en primavera y el calor comienza a notarse, la ciudad estará celebrando la Feria del Corpus Christi, final del curso escolar y comienzo de las vacaciones de verano para los más jóvenes.

Por cierto, también coincide la apertura de la piscina que tenemos en la urbanización en la que residimos. Esta urbanización está muy cerca del centro de la ciudad, tiene una magnífica situación y te resultará muy cómodo ir caminando hasta el Centro de Lenguas Modernas que es donde estudiaras. Verás que es una ciudad bonita, cómoda y llena de luz y alegría.

 

Espero que tanto tus padres como tú estéis más tranquilos con todo lo que os he contado, pero si queréis más información solo tienes que mandarme otro correo.

 

¡Ah! por favor, necesito que me digas exactamente que día y a que hora llegarás a Granada, por si necesitas ayuda y para tenerlo todo preparado.

We have a little over a month before we go to Spain. once again I'm really rather nervous about this. But Upon talking to my parents, who have been to Spain a couple of times, they insure me that the people are friendly and after a few weeks there I won’t want to come home. Spaniards have a tendency to use a lot of olive oil in their cooking. That is because  olive trees, particularly in the south of Spain flourish.  Something I’m most excited about is that I will return home from Spain, dark, skinny(from walking, and healthier more evenly distributed food intake) and fluent! My dad, who speaks Spanish advised me to push through the language barrier even when it gets discouraging, that’s the only way to become fluent. With this looming adventure on my horizon, I can’t help but be a little excited. It’ll be interesting to see my growth as I submerge myself in the culture of Spain.  

La comida de espanol.

Spanish Eating habits include loosely defined meal times. They take place every two or three hours, and to the average American it’s typically a few hours off of our usual meal time.

The meals begin with El desayuno, or breakfast. It is before 10am. Breakfast in spain is very simple, it is often only a cup of coffee with a side of a simple bread, or “Pan tomaca” which is a piece of toast with an oil and tomato spread.

Spaniards enthusiastically embrace their love of coffee, or Café. After working for a few hours it’s common for coworkers to take a break with the common beverage.

La Comida, Lunch. Is typically between 2pm and 4pm and is the heaviest meal of the day. This is the time of the siesta. During the Siesta period stores and business close, and many people go home to eat the mid-day meal.

The next Meal is known as La merienda or the late afternoon snack because after the Siesta, the next big meal isn’t until late at night The light snack between these times of the day is also known as a "tentempié.” Common merienda choices can include a small sandwich, a piece of fruit, or perhaps another cup of coffee. 

The last is La cena which is held between 9pm and 10:30pm. Dinner is traditionally lighter than La Comida. And Dinner is traditionally quite a bit lighter than its mid-day counterpart, often consisting of something as light as a salad or sandwich. 

Granada- Spain

Located at the base of the Sierra Nevada, and near agricultural fields. Granada is a beautiful part of Spain. The population is 250- 350,000. The recent growth in population can be attributed to Granada being a student city with a large amount of people coming from outside to study. Granada is two hours from the southern Coast of Spain. The temperature when I will be there should be moderately nice. Between 70-85 degrees. Granada was  originally owned by Arabic Sultans, and as a Result most of the Architecture, and history of Granada has a basis in Arab, and Muslim influences. And last of all, as is expected in most parts of Spain. night life is for celebrating and enjoying company of our neighbors and friends.
I am personally getting a little scared as i ponder on my upcoming trip. Though Spaniards are known for their bright natures, what if i have a extra hard time learning the language? 

What if I don't do well in my Classes because of my language barrier?

Also, it is unclear to me, what is the name of the University where we will be studying?

For someone who has never left the country, I'm a tad bit overwhelmed by the prospect of cultural immersion. We shall see what will come of my adventure in Spain.
